Will the sub-tropical beauty of Miami be blotted out by large, distracting signs? The outdoor advertising industry threatens our identity and sense of place by an ever-increasing number of moving-every-eight-seconds billboards.
Complex federal, state, county and city laws are not being enforced and existing regulations are under siege to become ever more permissive. The outdoor advertising industry employs numerous lobbyists at every level of government to make its voice heard and advance its goals and objectives – to maximize profits. And the price/cost we all pay – irretrievably – is the visual pollution of our sub-tropical scenic beauty.
Miami does not need to give away- forever-its prized possession.
Join with your fellow residents and local organizations in ScenicMiami.org to promote coherence in planning and oversee our visual environment with the following principles: 1) maximum public transparency and input into ordinances and agreements impacting the visual environment, reflecting awareness of comparative urban perspectives and the integrity of our neighborhoods, public safety, and public spaces; 2) public hearings with regular written assessments (including violators, enforcement actions, fines collected, and illegal signs removed) of sign legislation by relevant administrators.
